Stay in the Race

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

1 Corinthians 9:24

The only way to finish your race is to keep, prayerfully, putting one foot in front of the other.

Don’t let quitting your race be an option.

Exercise your spiritual muscles by staying in the Word, praying, serving, and following God’s lead.

Just when you think you’re never going to make it, may you feel God’s grace strengthening you and carrying you toward your big finish.

You can do it, and God is with you all the way to the end.

Firm Foundation

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Matthew 7:24–25

When you’re rooted and grounded in Christ, you can be pounded on by hurricane winds and torrential rain and still have the fortitude to stand.

Jesus Christ is your firm foundation.

As the water rages and wind howls, may you keep your peace, knowing that they won’t tear you apart.

Your challenges won’t overpower you. Your enemies won’t defeat you.

May you stand on the promises of God found in the Bible, and may you see how God will bring you into your victory season, at His set time.

I’m so excited that today is the launch day for Feisty Faith: Trusting God Day by Day. Feisty Faith is an empowering, encouraging and edifying 365-day devotional. “Have you noticed that walking by faith isn’t always a lovely stroll in the park on a sunny afternoon?

Living by faith can sometimes feel like you’re limping along a winding road with endless dips and hills and twists and turns amid unrelenting torrential rain and gusting wind.

Ever been there? Maybe you’re in that season right now.

No matter where you find yourself on your faith journey, I’d like to remind you that God’s got you in the palm of His hand.

I’ve walked quite a few miles with the Lord now. I’ve trekked through my share of grueling valleys and breathtaking mountaintops. I’ve seen God do some amazing things on six continents, which you can read about in By Faith: Adventures and Reflections on Walking with God Here and Abroad.

I’ve learned that God is faithful. I’ve also learned how to fight the good fight of faith.

If I had to describe my type of faith in one word, especially these last couple of years, it would be “feisty.”

Feisty faith is steadfast and has the tenacity to keep trusting God in the midst of adversity, the grit to stand on God’s Word even during the brutal storms of life, the grace to keep moving forward, and the audacity to believe God for the impossible.

Feisty faith prays and obeys. Feisty faith looks for God’s hand in all circumstances.

What a great honor it is to be able to share some of my life verses with you in this devotional. I’m sharing these Bible verses to spur you on and help deepen your faith in God. There are hundreds more Bible verses I could share, but these Scriptures are especially near and dear to my heart.

I’ve drawn strength from these verses. I’ve stood on some of these verses for years. I’ve cried over some of these verses. I’ve been comforted by these verses. I’ve lived many of these verses. I’ve found direction and counsel from these verses. I’ve gained such courage from some of these verses, enough to board planes to go on short-term missions trips to five countries and to pray for strangers on the streets in New York City and overseas.

My prayer is that these verses will encourage and inspire you to walk by abounding faith, hope, and love and to live your God-given dreams. May you go on to do the great exploits and good works God has ordained for you. May you be strengthened in your inner being.”
